Categories of Membership

Three ways to belong.

Type 01

Full Member

Young women aged 14–40 and member organisations who agree with our aims and objectives.

—Voting rights in continental assemblies and conventions.
—Eligibility to stand for election to leadership positions.
—Access to all programmes, masterclasses and events.
—Representation at regional and country level.

Type 02

Associate Member

Women above the age range defining a young woman, by accepted African standards or as resolved by the Continental Executive.

—Participation in programmes and events.
—Mentorship and advisory contributions.
—Non-voting participation in assemblies.

Type 03

Honorary Member

Outstanding women invited by the leadership for their contributions to women's emancipation in Africa. Former YWOA leaders receive lifetime honorary membership.

—Membership of the Advisory Council, chaired by the Continental Convener.
—Recognition for lifelong contribution.
—Non-voting status in YWOA assemblies.

How to Join

Five steps to membership.

Express Interest

Reach out to YWOA via WhatsApp or email to express your interest in joining the movement.

Submit Application

Complete the membership application and confirm agreement with the YWOA aims and objectives.

Leadership Approval

The Continental Executive reviews the application and grants once-off approval.

Pay Subscription

Pay the subscription/joining fee determined by the Continental Executive (renewable every five years).

The terms we agree to.

01Only persons, organisations and countries that believe and agree with our aims and objectives, vision and mission will be granted membership.

02Membership is granted by paying a subscription/joining fee, renewable every five years.

03The membership fee is determined by the Continental Executive every five years.

04Members in good standing have the right to vote in continental assemblies and conventions.

05Decisions are taken through persuasion, and where necessary by secret ballot with a simple majority.

06Membership may be suspended or revoked from individuals, countries and organisations that act against YWOA policies and resolutions.
